Embrace Your Brilliance: A Call to Celebrate Yourself
I recognize that for many, there can be a reluctance to celebrate oneself and to wholeheartedly embrace the wonderful abilities of those who illuminate the world with their unique skills. This is where the opportunity for you awaits
At some point in our lives, we either accepted the idea that we "shouldn't brag about ourselves," concluded that such behavior was inappropriate, or were influenced by others who downplayed their achievements.
Regardless of the reasons behind our reluctance to engage, each moment presents a fresh opportunity to embrace something different.
I encourage all readers of this post to share in the comments one aspect of yourself that you are celebrating. LITERALLY ANYTHING. As in, you successfully finished cleaning out that closet from 2007. You created a video for your social media page. You gained a fresh perspective. And so on.
Then, return each day and add another for a full week. I appreciate your perspective: "Wow, I need to find seven things to celebrate?! Just include one for today. Then come back tomorrow. Again and again...
Appreciating and celebrating ourselves involves dedicating time to acknowledge and be thankful for who we are. Perhaps this encompasses tangible items such as purchasing new clothing or cosmetics. It could be a getaway with friends or a solo movie night. Do you take a moment to be grateful during your "me time" in front of the bathroom mirror? Let's explore various methods to honor yourself, to convey appreciation, and to radiate positivity.
Did you know that merely contemplating something that brings you joy boosts serotonin levels in your brain? Serotonin is a key neurotransmitter in the brain that also functions as a hormone, promoting feelings of satisfaction, happiness, and optimism. Here are some ideas that can help you truly appreciate yourself, leading to significant improvements in mental health and stress response, which in turn can positively affect your metabolism and overall quality of life!
Your uniqueness
Every individual possesses unique quirks, whether in food preferences, personal style, or reactions to various circumstances. For example, I know someone who adds ketchup to macaroni and cheese or spreads peanut butter on cucumbers, which some might consider unusual. Do you also have unusual taste buds? Do you enjoy dressing up? Share it with us, and we promise to keep an open mind!
Embracing optimism.
"Hopeful" signifies an unwavering patience for positive outcomes, even when faced with numerous challenges. Hopeful conveys appreciation as we gaze upward, progress onward, and advance one step at a time. We prefer not to linger on the past, fret about the future, or become bogged down by uncertainties.
We must embrace the present, maintain our faith, and persistently move forward, step by step. Some individuals will seek solace in God, others in their family, while some may discover comfort in books, time spent outdoors, or the companionship of their pets to foster a positive mindset and sustain hope.
Having the capacity to forgive is important.
Forgiveness can be a challenging endeavor for many individuals. It is essential to keep in mind that forgiveness can lead to a more fulfilling life and contribute to a restful night's sleep. Forgiveness can reduce our cortisol levels, which in turn can have a significant effect on our metabolism. Are you familiar with that sensation when you are upset with someone, and it lingers in your mind? Then, when the moment arrives that you're prepared to forgive them, you actually do? It feels nice, doesn't it? That's it!
The Gift of Life
Life. Having the gift of life is truly something to celebrate. We have the pleasure of appreciating all the little things it provides: waking up, the ease of moving our limbs, the chance to exercise and learn, delightful foods, luxurious travels, and the simple act of breathing—all of which are truly worthy of celebration!
Having true friends or best friends
We all have that person with whom we can share everything, someone who understands our flaws, someone who is our support, and often, that person is not related to us by blood. We refer to them as our best friends, and regardless of how much time has passed since you last saw each other or checked in, there's a comforting assurance that everything is fine. Despite leading different lives, there's a mutual belief that he is always there for you, just as you are for him. Isn't that something to appreciate and celebrate?!
Family.
Lastly, I believe that one of the greatest things to appreciate about ourselves is having a family that stands by us no matter what. Perhaps this isn't a biological family, but even those who are not related by blood can be a true treasure! They hold a special place in our hearts that we truly consider home.
They are present to share in our joyful moments and remain steadfast by our side during challenging times. Having them in our lives is something we truly appreciate and celebrate. As Michael J. Fox once said, "Family is not an important thing." It encompasses all aspects. There's nothing to elaborate on; it's straightforward and uncomplicated.
For me, I appreciate and celebrate waking up (mostly) healthy each day, the ability to nourish and move my body as it deserves, and having a family to return to after a long day at work. What about you? I appreciate my resilience and the ability to adapt to challenges. I celebrate my creativity and the unique perspectives I bring to various situations.
Additionally, I value my commitment to meditation and personal growth, as well as the positive impact I strive to have on those around me. Have you been yearning for that weight loss you've desired for so long? Or is it when you no longer need maintenance medicines because you feel good about yourself? We invite you to join us for a discussion!
Most importantly, have fun! The more you engage in this practice, the more your mind will start to recognize them instinctively, without requiring a prompt. Keep in mind that whatever we pursue, we will find... whether it leads to growth or diminishment, the decision is yours!
