Outside the Camp
“Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp and everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting.
Exodus 33:7
When Moses wanted to spend time with God, he didn’t stay where it was comfortable.
He went outside the camp.
The tent of meeting was not placed among the noise, the routine, or the familiarity. It was set apart away from what was known, away from what was safe.
And anyone who truly sought the Lord had to leave the camp to find Him.
It makes you stop and ask:
When we seek God, do we stay where it is comfortable
or are we willing to step outside what we know?
Because stepping into the unknown can feel unsettling.
It can make us feel exposed, out of place, even vulnerable.
And often, we are tempted to run back to what is familiar
even if what is familiar has wounded us
because at least it is known.
But God calls us beyond that place.
He calls us out of comfort
out of routine
out of what we can control
and into a place of trust.
“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed.” Mark 1:35
Even Jesus stepped away.
Away from the crowds.
Away from the demands.
Away from the noise.
Into a desolate place, not because it was easy, but because it was necessary.
When the disciples were looking for Him, they couldn’t find Him
because He had chosen to be alone with the Father.
Seeking God will take you out of your comfort zone.
It requires time.
It requires space.
It requires laying down what you want,
to simply be with Him.
And it is from that place
the hidden place
the quiet place
the place outside the camp
that everything begins to change.
After Jesus spent time alone with the Father,
He came back and moved in power
healing the sick, casting out demons,
and revealing the heart of God.
What is done in the secret place
will always flow into the public.
