People with the highest healthy lifestyle score had a 51% lower risk of cardiovascular disease and a 79% lower risk of type 2 diabetes compared with those with the lowest score.
Even more important: improving lifestyle after diagnosis lowered risk, while letting habits decline increased it.
The big idea is simple: medication matters, but it doesn’t replace the basics. Sleep, movement, nutrition, weight management, and not smoking are not “extras.” They are part of the treatment.
Hypertension is not just a blood pressure issue. It’s a systems issue.
