My name is Kevin Brady McLean and Sanctum is the name representing my debut collection of poetry. As a child I was recognized by Duke University who hosted a Talent Identification Program in the form of an essay contest in partnership with the State of Florida. My work was selected amongst a handful of other students which afforded us an opportunity to travel to Tallahassee and meet Governor Jeb Bush.
I continued to write throughout my time in school... often ignoring other subjects in the process. My senior year was in 2009 and my family ended up losing our home in the financial crisis. My parents divorced. I gave up writing for some time, only producing pieces here and there. In 2022 I lost my brother to suicide and a year later, my mother was found murdered by the man she'd been seeing after my father.
No one believed in me or my ability to write more than my mother and my brother, who were artists in their own right. It is my intent and mission to honor that belief and their memory.
