Welcome!
Hi everyone! I'm Erin, and I wanted to personally welcome you to our community. I'm a Clinical Herbalist and Functional Medicine Practitioner with over a decade of experience helping people address the root causes of illness through herbs, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and evidence-informed natural health. My training includes Western herbalism, Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, Ayurveda, and indigenous healing traditions. Over the years, I've worked with hundreds of clients navigating hormone imbalances, digestive issues, chronic inflammation, fatigue, autoimmune conditions, and the everyday challenges of modern life. But more than anything... I believe your body was designed to heal. Sometimes it just needs the right support, nourishment, and environment. This community was created because there is so much I can't fully teach in a one-hour appointment. Here, we'll slow down and learn together. You can expect practical education on topics like: Herbal medicine Nutrition that supports real healing Hormone balance and perimenopause Sleep and nervous system regulation Stress resilience and mindset Living in rhythm with your body Low-tox living and sustainable wellness habits My goal isn't to overwhelm you with information. It's to help you understand why your body is responding the way it is and give you practical tools you can actually use. A few things about this space: This is a judgment-free community. Questions are encouraged. Everyone is at a different place on their health journey. We value curiosity, kindness, and respectful discussion. I'd love to get to know you! 👇 Introduce yourself below: • Where are you from? • What brought you here? • What's one health goal you're working toward right now? I'm genuinely excited you're here. Welcome to Roots & Remedies Community. Let's get to the root together.
Your Body Has Receipts
You can ignore being tired. You can override hunger. You can use caffeine to manufacture energy. You can push through your cycle. You can stay up late because there's still stuff to get done. And sometimes life genuinely requires us to do exactly that. But the body keeps the accounting. Eventually it starts sending louder messages. This isn't about blaming ourselves for symptoms. It's about recognizing that our physiology is responding to the conditions we're living in. Herbs can support us beautifully. And sometimes herbs are exactly what help us get through a difficult season. But part of herbal medicine is also asking: What is this plant supporting me through—and is there anything in my life I can change so my body doesn't have to work quite so hard? That's medicine too.

Let's Talk About Motherwort
Motherwort — Leonurus cardiaca — is one of those plants whose common name tells us something beautiful about its traditional relationship with women. I think about motherwort when nervous tension and the reproductive system overlap. Traditionally, it has been used for nervousness, tension and menstrual complaints, and herbalists have long associated it with the heart as well. But this is also a perfect example of why I don't teach: “Anxiety? Take motherwort.” Motherwort isn't appropriate for everyone. It is generally avoided during pregnancy except under appropriately qualified guidance, and I'd use additional caution when medications or bleeding concerns are involved. Plants have personalities. They have affinities. They have contraindications. Learning those nuances is what turns: “I take herbs” into “I understand herbal medicine.”

Can We Talk About Protein?
Women need protein through every season of life. Not just when we're trying to lose weight. Not just after 40. And definitely not just if we're trying to build giant biceps. Protein provides amino acids your body uses throughout the body. And our needs don't disappear because we're busy. Your reproductive years. Pregnancy and postpartum. High-stress seasons. Perimenopause. Menopause and healthy aging. These are all times when nourishment matters. And yet one of the patterns I commonly see is women eating something like: Coffee. Maybe toast. A salad. A handful of something. Then wondering why they're standing in the pantry at 4 PM ready to eat the drywall. Rather than obsessing over a perfect number today, start here: Look at your meals. Where is the actual protein? Can you clearly identify it? Are you eating it consistently throughout the day? Are you eating enough food overall? Nutrition doesn't have to become another full-time job. Start with the obvious things first. Sometimes the body isn't malfunctioning. Sometimes she needs lunch.

Brain Fog Is a Symptom, Not a Diagnosis
You walk into a room... Why am I here? Open your phone... What was I doing? Start a sentence... And apparently the noun you need has left the building. Brain fog is very real. But "brain fog" doesn't tell us why it's happening. And it isn't something women suddenly need to start thinking about at 40. Things I want to consider include: • Sleep quality • Blood sugar regulation • Iron and nutrient status • Thyroid function • Menstrual and hormonal patterns • Pregnancy and postpartum changes • Perimenopause • Stress and mental load • Medications • Hydration • Whether you're simply exhausted Your season of life gives us context. A sleep-deprived new mother experiencing brain fog may present very differently from a 27-year-old with heavy menstrual bleeding or a 47-year-old whose sleep and cycles have suddenly changed. Same complaint: “My brain isn't working.” Potentially very different stories underneath it. That's why I don't want women automatically blaming themselves—or automatically blaming their hormones. Name the symptom. Then investigate the pattern. That's where useful answers begin.
