Nacha Pop - Lucha De Gigantes
And just like that, Spain joins the community. This is a massive song, known by millions and featured in the soundtrack to the indie masterpiece "Amores Perros", which put Alejandro González Iñárritu on the map as one of the most talented film directors of his generation. I'm fascinated by the unusual chord progression and the intricate work between bass and lead guitar. Enjoy this latin rock masterpiece! And RIP Antonio Vega! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO9s1hcrooQ&list=RDiO9s1hcrooQ&start_radio=1
WITCH - Lazy Bones
Welcome to Zamrock! WITCH (an acronym for We Intend To Cause Havoc) was a Zambian band active in the '70s during the golden era the country experienced after gaining its independence. This is their most popular song, from 1975, and I can't get enough of that raw, unadulterated, machine-gun-like drum sound and the basic production. Enjoy rock from Africa! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAZo-rn_AAs&list=RDxAZo-rn_AAs&start_radio=1
Boris - Pink
Japan is in the house! Boris is a band that defies all conventional classifications except for one: Amazing. This is the title track from their ninth 2005 album. What influences do you pick up on? Arigato gozaimasu, Boris! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bREC4gvH5Gw&list=RDbREC4gvH5Gw&start_radio=1
Francesco De Gregori - Pablo
This is a big one. It's hard to summarize in just a few lines the impact that this incomparable artist has had on Italian music during his 50+ years career. Heavily inspired by the genius of Bob Dylan in his early output, he subsequently developed his own voice by combining masterful - yet unique - melodic vision and phenomenal lyrical content. This is Pablo, from 1975, and one of his many masterpieces. There will be many more of his works in this channel. Does anyone else pick up some Father John Misty vibes, some 40 years earlier? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZsr7S4p5Wc&list=RDFZsr7S4p5Wc&start_radio=1
The Hu - Wolf Totem & Song Of Women
The Who? No. The Hu. Rock music with instruments like the morin khuur and the tovshuur, and throat singing. Are you curious yet? Well, you should. And it's going to blow your mind. Hailing from Mongolia, classically trained and insanely talented, this band is building all sorts of bridges between traditional folk music and Western rock, and everybody should know about them. I'm making this a double feature because, frankly, I couldn't decide on which one to choose. Wolf Totem is as intimidating as any Black Sabbath or Swans piece, whilst Song Of Women is an incredibly moving homage to all the women that make up the best that our world has to offer, and features the magnificent Lzzy Hale of Halestorm on vocals. Enjoy this astounding band. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jM8dCGIm6yc&list=RDjM8dCGIm6yc&start_radio=1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdN1U9NvuIc&list=RDmdN1U9NvuIc&start_radio=1
