In my studio chair, just off the phone with my bandmate.
He's ending our band.
I ask myself, "Do I quit rap?"
A hook tugs on my gut, drags me back to high school when I told my dad I quit basketball, letting a dream die.
Now, my rap dream might die.
I grab my old journal.
Page after page, my teen angst turns into rap verses.
If I quit rapping part of me dies because it's how I think, learn, and grow.
For 20 years I didn't realize why I rapped until this night.
I rap for personal growth.
