HELP: Scale & proportion (between New&Old home)
Hi Kate❤️ I’m currently building our beach home in California. I’m torn about the slanted roof above the dining that creates a large triangle dropdown. I’m debating creating an even lower soffit all the way(drawn in blue at 9’ high) between the the kitchen+great room(new build) & dining (existing old roof) to square off the triangle so we don’t see that huge triangle in the new build area. But then we won’t get the grand kitchen + great room ceiling instant reveal when we enter the house from the foyer. Our architect suggests to embrace the old structure because we can’t fool people to think that part of dining has a low and slanted ceiling, so might as well just make the entire home grand and open. I understand the super open floorplan is almost over; I just would like to make the right decision on if I should just leave the current beam at 11’ not trying to separate the 2 areas and simply embrace that eyesore? Or i should square off and drop the soffit for a formal divider between the old and new build? Any advice would be appreciated xx
