Let's Talk About the Auntie Years
I want to tell you about one of the best days of my life, and it wasn't my own milestone. Thirty years ago, I drove my sister to Beaumont to have her second baby. A few hours later, they put my niece Alexis in my arms. I didn't give birth that day, but I left the hospital as someone new. I was her auntie, and that role has shaped me ever since. Here's why I'm bringing it up. A lot of us hit this season of life and feel like our roles are disappearing. The kids are grown, the job title changed, the house got quieter. It's easy to start believing your purpose is shrinking. But some of the most important roles we've ever held never came with a title. Auntie. Godmother. The family friend everybody calls when things fall apart. Those roles don't dissolve when everything else is changing. They come through the chrysalis with us. In The Reluctant Butterfly, one of the 5 PIVOTS is Village Matters. Most of us think of the village as the people who support us. But we're also part of someone else's village, and we have been for years. The kids we loved and the young women we cheered on are out in the world now, carrying pieces of us with them. Alexis turns 30 this year. She's a grown woman building her own life. I'm still her auntie, and I'm still proud of it. So I want to hear from you. Reflection question: Who are you an auntie to, by blood or by choice? What has that relationship shown you about who you are? Share in the comments. I'd love to meet the people in your village.
🦋 My Why. Our Work. Promise Yourself First.
I created Renegade Butterfly Coaching and this Skool community to support women—especially women over 50—as they rebuild self-trust, reclaim movement, and step more fully into life. I’m honored to do this work alongside you. In our Skool community, we practice: 🦋 Intentional movement 🦋 Honest reflection Supportive connection Small promises kept This week, choose one meaningful promise you can keep—even on a hard day. Move for a few minutes, write a paragraph, pray, or ask for help. Small steps count, especially when they help you trust yourself again. Now post your promise in the Skool community: “This week, I promise to ___ because ___.” Keep it specific and doable, then return later to share how it went. Let’s cheer one another on and celebrate every promise kept. 💜

Day 25 of The Pivot Year: Wisdom Lifts Her Voice
October: Emerge · A Promise to Myself > *"To know wisdom and instruction, to discern the sayings of understanding."* — Proverbs 1:2 > > *"Wisdom shouts in the street, she lifts her voice in the square."* — Proverbs 1:20 (NASB95) Notice where Scripture places Wisdom. Not in a back room. Not lowering her voice to keep the peace. She is a woman standing in the busiest part of town, speaking loudly enough to be heard. That isn't the picture most of us were handed. For years, someone else tried to set the terms: what we should feel, how much we should want, what we could do with our minds and our bodies. And in the second half of life, a new script shows up: step aside, your season is over. But Wisdom isn't decoration. She's earned. We earned ours through loss, caregiving, starting over, and getting back up. **Here's my confession.** Being bold and visible is hard for me. I was challenged to film Reels unscripted, and my heart shuddered. Scripted feels safe. I control every word. Unscripted means being seen before I've polished myself. Then I remembered: God gave me this voice and supplied the boldness to use it. My job isn't to manufacture courage. It's to stop keeping quiet about what I already know. ## One life. One body. For real. Twenty-five days in, here is what I'm learning: I don't want to live for applause. I want to live in a way that makes me glad to be alive. I have one life and one body. Not the body I had at thirty, not the one on someone's highlight reel. This one, with its history, its strength, its aches, and its stubborn will to keep moving. I'm done treating it as a project to fix for other people's approval. I want to train it, feed it, rest it, and enjoy it, because it carries me through my real days, in my real life. That's what boldness looks like now. Not a show. Not accolades. Just showing up honestly, as I am, where I am. And I'm excited. Truly. Something is opening up ahead of me, and I believe what is meant for me will not pass me by. I don't need to have it all figured out to walk toward it with joy.
