Faith ... (September 2nd Entry from Honorary Indian Decolonized)
Faith … the belief in the unseen, the undeniable ‘knowing’ that it is going to be okay. The Elders have incredible faith. They know that Creator is ever-present, providing us with what we need, when we need it.
Case in point - last weekend, I had the opportunity to speak to one of my Elders as she prepared for the next leg of her Water Walk. She and a group of dedicated women are walking around each of the Great Lakes to raise awareness of how delicate these waters are and how we should honour the water as the giver of life.
As we chatted, she shared with me how when they began their first walk around Lake Superior, they had a total of $85 in donations and that by the time they had travelled from Thunder Bay, Ontario to Superior, Wisconsin, their funds were almost depleted. Yet they continued, secure in their faith that Creator would provide. By the time they completed their walk they had over $2000 in donations. They knew that the following year they would walk the next Great Lake, but did they keep the money? No, they gave it to a shelter and went home, confident in the fact that Creator would again provide when the time came.
That my friend, is FAITH.
Now, if I were to look back along my life path, I could recall several times when I had no idea what tomorrow would bring. Times when all I had was my faith and the love of my family and friends, people sent by Creator to ensure I never walk alone.
I can remember a time when the level of poverty I was experiencing required that I eat once every three days, simply because I could not afford to eat at more regular intervals. I did it. On the days in between I drank MASSIVE amounts of coffee to quiet my hunger and celebrated ‘Food Day’ whenever it arrived. I had faith that things would turn around and they did.
Ask, believe, and receive. All the ancient religions and teachings deliver that same message, so today I ask you to do one simple thing - ask. Ask for your heart’s desire and then get on with living. Have faith that it WILL arrive.
Ask, believe, and receive. Don’t you think it’s time?
