10 contributions to Relationship to Reconciliation
Lesson 13
In the community, list off some behaviours you might see (remember violence, acquiescence, and non-violent resistance) and how you will react to them. Violence: people who gossip, bully or ostracize Acquiesence: people who don't appear to care NV Resistance: people who dare to speak up

Lesson 6
Imagine two Indigenous people. One is very assimilated into mainstream culture while the other is very traditional. In the community, list off six traits that may be expressed by each person. Consider things like the language they would speak, the holidays they would or wouldn’t observe, how and where they were educated, and how comfy they would be working with you. No wrong answers. Just your best guesses. Assimilated: English, all holidays, high school education +, mostly comfortable to work with me, Traditional: his/her own language and English, educated by Elders, very wary of working with me.

Lesson 12
I have heard most of these with the exception of "buying a feather" and "apple". Those two I've never heard but am glad to know what they mean so that if I do hear it, I can shut it down.

Lesson 11
Patience - When it comes to building relationships, how patient are you with yourself and others? How could you improve? Patience is not my strong suit. I often tell myself to take a breath so that I can slow down my expectations of others. Awareness - How aware are you of the issues being faced by the Indigenous communities you will be working with? How can you improve? I would say that I have very basic knowledge of issues faced by Indigenous communities. I can improve by continuing to read, study and educate myself. Tenacity - How likely are you to "keep going" even if you make a mistake while building relationships? How can you improve? I would likely feel very badly about making a mistake but that would not stop me from continuing to improve. Humility - How humble are you? Are you comfortable with learning? Do you leave your ego at home? How can you improve? I can always work on being more humble. I try each day. I love learning. I would say that my ego is mostly left at home but I sure do have times when I struggle with it. I can improve this by continually reminding myself to be humble and kind and try to catch/acknowledge when I'm being judgmental.

Lesson 10
In the community, list off some ways you will prove you are “not a cat”. (Remember many Indigenous will be intimidated by you. How can you reassure them that you are not a threat?) I am not a cat. I don't want to be a cat at all. I want to be kind, accepting, aware, somewhat knowledgeable and most of all, sincere.
