Being Present While Your Body Is Sick
Take a moment to get as comfortable as you can.
You can sit.
You can lie down.
You can keep your eyes open.
You can close them.
There is no right position for this practice.
Today, we are not trying to fix your body.
We are not trying to make your symptoms disappear.
We are simply going to practice being with ourselves while our body is doing something difficult.
Take a moment to notice where you are.
Notice the surface supporting you.
Maybe you can feel the bed beneath you.
Maybe you can feel the chair beneath you.
You don't have to change anything.
Just notice.
Notice Your Breathing
Now, gently bring your attention to your breathing.
You do not need to take a deep breath.
You do not need to slow your breathing down.
Just notice that you are breathing.
Maybe your breath feels easy.
Maybe it feels uncomfortable.
Maybe you don't notice much at all.
Whatever you notice is okay.
If focusing on your breathing makes you uncomfortable, let your attention move somewhere else.
You can focus on the feeling of the blanket against your skin.
The weight of your body against the bed.
The sound of a fan.
The feeling of your feet.
Your hands.
Something you can see in the room.
Mindfulness does not require us to focus on one particular thing.
It asks us to notice what is happening right now.
Now ask yourself:
“What is one kind thing I can do for my body right now?”
Maybe the answer is rest.
Maybe it is drinking some water.
Maybe it is asking someone for help.
Maybe it is contacting your doctor.
Maybe it is simply putting your phone down and closing your eyes.
Whatever the answer is, let it be enough.
You don't have to heal all at once.
You don't have to accomplish anything during this practice.
You are allowed to be sick.
You are allowed to be tired.
You are allowed to take up space while your body recovers.
For this moment, just be here.

This is something that helped me this last week as i recover from Covid/the flu. And that I wanted to share as we are entering the window of flu season.
