More than 25 years ago, we stood among The Gideons International and told a story we were still living. Recently, we found these photographs again. Looking at them now, we can see something we could not fully see then: God was not only working in our marriage. He was preparing a testimony that would one day help us stand with other couples. We are not marriage commentators speaking advices from the sidelines. We are husband and wife who have spent decades on the marriage battlefield ourselves — and we are winers now. But we know what it means to face disappointment, conflict, painful patterns and the temptation to lose hope. We also know what can happen when Scripture enters the story — when it begins changing what a husband and wife believe, how they respond, and what they really need fighting for. The Gideons helped put the Bible into our story. Their faithfulness reached farther than they could have known. Decades later, it is still bearing fruit — in our home, in our marriage, and now in what God is building here. Before we ever stood with other marriages, someone stood with ours. We have never forgotten.
