For DIY parties (especially for kids parties) 4x8 1/2" insulation board from Home Depot is your BEST FRIEND! It can be cut down with a wallpaper or exacto knife, painted with regular wall paint, and is lightweight and easy to work with. This is your go-to for homemade character cutouts and backdrops! The best news is they are less than $20 each and with a fresh coat of paint (or none if your event uses the same color) the same board can be used over and over again for multiple events.
The below images are all using the same main board, just a fresh coat of paint in between- and see how the pink skyscraper board became a butter board for the next event.
