Place-based literacy is the ability to understand and participate in the ecological, seasonal, cultural, and material relationships of a specific place in ways that contribute to its long-term thriving.
Everywhere is unique and harbors traditional foods, medicines and materials that simultaneously nurture human and habitat health. This course focuses on the mountain west and high deserts.

-Where native plants naturally grow with GPS locations you can visit
-How to identify wild food and medicine
-Key identification features so you can recognize plants with confidence
-When plants flower, fruit, and set seed throughout the seasons
-The ecological role each plant plays within its ecosystem
-Traditional and practical uses of native plants
-How to read the landscape and understand why plants grow where they do
-Ethical harvesting practices and ways to care for the places you explore
The goal is to develop the knowledge and awareness to become an active participant for the land.
