Eli Lilly is ramping up in China
A $200 million upgrade to its Suzhou manufacturing hub to boost production of Mounjaro and Zepbound, plus a $200 million deal with Pharmaron as part of a broader $3 billion China manufacturing push to scale their upcoming daily weight‑loss pill, orforglipron. Lilly also signed a strategic research collaboration with Zonsen PepLib Biotech to advance peptide therapeutics. And since China controls the key starting materials—core amino acids and other raw building blocks essential for peptide synthesis—even products finished in the U.S. still depend on these Chinese inputs to complete fabrication. This partnership-driven, cross-border approach links massive scale with critical supply-chain access to power Lilly’s obesity and diabetes pipeline.
