Why Patina Club, why now?
Because I sat on a Haybale and had a Weed Brownie. My name is Richard, I've been in business, mainly sales and marketing for about 25 years, and If there's one thing the last 25 years has taught me is that being successful in anything in business is a challenge. Now if there's one thing this year has taught me, it's that building a brand is the fucking hardest challenge in businesses, but I'm going all in... Why? Well, let me share something with you, about 3 years ago I burned out in a major way. Burnout arrives like a thief, not a enemy. I was grafting hard, I'd built a business coaching enterprise that had turned over £1M in revenue, that specialised in mentoring and guiding small clinic owners, to six figure incomes. One day I sat with a friend at a festival, and he asked me a simple question "How are you?" Now I had the standard "not too bad" response prepared, but what came out of my mouth was how I actually felt "I've never felt so trapped in my life"...and from then that was it. I couldn't go back. Long story short, I shuttered that business, took a massive hit, and bought a 1989 Chevy Van. I spent the next 12 months fixing the van, fixing my head, and helping my amazing wife Amy grow her online retail business. After a while, I was ready to face the world again, but unfortunately the universe had another idea. It took my Father from me. So after another tough 12 months I was ready to face the world again....but this time I was a very different man. I didn't want o do what I was doing anymore, I'd lost my mojo, but found something else. You see, in that 24 months I'd connected with a part of my soul that had lay quiet for over 25 years. The Artist was speaking again. I found myself spending a lot of time with the custom bike community, with Vanners, with painters, with leatherworkers, with creatives. I found myself creating, just baby steps, but the thing I created was my Van, Hank. I rebuilt him nose to tail.... And then an amazing thing happened, I was asked by a dear friend to help out at some festivals on their fashion brand, took a few of my small leather items to sell and....sold out.
