It's All In The Mindset Of A True Party Thrower!
Yes. Before you book a venue, before you call one sponsor, before you text a single friend...
...the whole thing already lives or dies somewhere else. In your head. In your chest.
In the energy you carry around all day.
That is the real starting line, and most people never even see it.
Let me say it again, because this is the one I want to stick.
The party starts in your mindset long before anybody walks through the door.
I have been doing this 22 plus years. One bus to a concert became eight buses.
Fifty people became 400 in Spanish hats at the Greek Theater waving light sticks.
And none of that happened because I had the best spreadsheet or the slickest flyer....that is for SURE
It happened because of the energy I carried into every single conversation that built it.
That is what ALF brings, and that is what I want to hand you here.
The Idea Is Just The Costume:
Everybody thinks the event begins with the idea.
Beach party.
Hotel takeover.
A bus to a concert.
Sure, you need one... but the idea is just the costume.
.....what people actually feel is the energy underneath it.
You can have the most creative concept in the world, and if you walk in tired, doubtful, half in, the room feels it. The room always knows. People read you before they read your flyer.
So when the idea hits, your first job is not logistics. It is to get yourself lit up about it.
This is not going to be just another party.
This is going to be out of this world!
On fire!
The kind of night people are still raving about weeks later.....
You have to feel that in your bones before anybody else can.
The energy you bring to the idea on day one is the same energy that ends up on the dance floor.
It travels. Through every handshake, every call, every yes and every no along the way.
Walk In Already Knowing It's A Yes:
When I go find a venue, I am not hoping they say yes. I already know we are about to do something great together, and they can smell it.
Think about their side.
A venue owner gets pitched all day by people who are nervous, desperate, leading with discounts.
Then ALF walks in, relaxed, warm, looking them dead in the eye, talking about a night that is going to fill their room with great people who spend money and come back.
I am not begging....I am handing them a win.
That posture, we both come out ahead here, gets you the better rate and the manager who actually wants to help you.
Same with sponsors. You have to genuinely believe the sponsor benefits from you, because they do. You are putting their name in front of the exact crowd they want, in a room where everybody is happy and open.
That is gold. Walk in apologizing for asking and you have already lost.
Walk in knowing you are offering something good and the whole conversation changes.
Get Your People On Fire:
Co-hosts and partners. This is where energy becomes everything.
You cannot get a co-host excited with a flat heart. Their fire comes from your fire.
So I do not hand them a task list.
I paint the night.
I tell them what it is going to feel like, who is showing up, the moment the room peaks and everybody is grinning ear to ear.
When they can feel it, they bring their own people and their own energy, and now you have two engines instead of one.
But align them first.
.....same standards, same culture, same idea of who belongs in the room. A co-host who only wants headcount and a cut, who does not care about the people, will poison the night no matter how good your idea is. If somebody gives off the wrong energy on a call, I can feel it in ten minutes, and I would rather walk away than build on bad ground.
The Right Crowd Brings The Right Crowd:
I never tried to fill a room with just anybody. I found the first fifty right people, and they brought the next fifty. That is the whole mechanic.
So you are not chasing numbers, you are protecting culture. One great connector who brings twenty good friends beats a hundred random tickets every time. Believe the right crowd is out there and refuse to water down the room to hit a number faster.
That is what makes your events feel like family instead of a transaction!!!
You Don't Build This By Text:
Here is the part most people get wrong, and the part I will not budge on.
You do not build energy through a text message. You do not light a sponsor up over email. That stuff is for confirming details after the real work is done.
The real work is face to face, or voice to voice. You go shake the hand. Meet, greet, smooch, take care of people. Look them in the eye and let them feel you in person, because that does not survive a screen.
And the phone counts too, when you bring it right... your voice carries that fire if you are actually feeling it. A flat voice on a call is worse than nothing. Your voice full of energy is the next best thing to standing right there.
A few things that work for me when I am out there:
Lead with the person, not the ask.
First few minutes are about them. You earn the right to talk business by caring first.
Say their name back. People light up when you remember them. It tells them they matter, and that is the whole game.
Give before you take. Make an intro they need. Help with something that has nothing to do with your event. Generosity earns trust no pitch can buy.
Be fully there. Phone away, eyes up. When you talk to somebody, they are the only person in the room. That kind of attention is rare now, and people feel it instantly.
Make Friday Your Move:
Here is a little one that does more than you would think. I do my reaching out, my hand shaking, my venue talks on Fridays. And I throw my parties on Fridays too.
Why.
.....Because people are wired different on a Friday. The whole weekend is sitting right in front of them. They are lighter, more open, more impulsive. They will get up and go do something just to kick the weekend off right... and that is where you come in.
....you are the one making that happen for them. Catch a sponsor or a venue manager on a stressed Monday and you are pushing uphill. Catch them Friday afternoon when they can already taste the weekend, and the same conversation goes twice as smooth. Bring the right energy on the right day and everything flows.
Guard Your Own Tank:
One a lot of people miss, and I live it. The energy you give is real, and it costs something. You cannot pour from empty. After a big push I crash, I go quiet a couple days, I recharge. That is the deal.
So protect your state. Do not walk into a venue meeting running on fumes. The night needs you full. Rest is not lazy, it is part of the job. Show up full or do not show up yet...figure out ways to Energize yoursel.
The Whole Thing In One Breath:
It is all in the mindset. The idea is the costume, the energy is the body underneath.
You walk in knowing it is a yes.
You get your people on fire and aligned.
You protect the room and trust the right crowd to bring the right crowd.
You do the real work in person and on the phone, never hiding behind a screen.
You catch people in the right mood, on the right day.
And you keep your own tank full so you can keep giving it.
Get the mindset right and everything downstream gets easier. Get it wrong and no flyer, no discount, no clever idea saves you.
I could always tell when a party was going to go off the hook or just be "another party". And lucky for me, most of them went completely off the hook.
That feeling, you create it. It starts in you, way before the doors open.
Now..... go shake some hands and make some phone calls.
Go make Summmething happen.... like.. NOW!
