I was just thinking about a conversation with in his latest Members' Music thread regarding density when it comes to delicate high frequency drum elements (e.g. shakers, hats) and my brain just started glitching... 🧠 If you clip narrow-band material for density, it will soon give way to IMD (broad-frequency material is less susceptible to undesirable IMD artefacts). 🤓
So what if we were to match such a sound to white noise FIRST (virtually impervious to clipping IMD), and then mix that in with the dry signal in parallel? 🤔
Furthermore... What if we could use a brown-matched sample instead of the dry signal? 😍
So many options and combos to try... Sounds like a total nightmare for mixing workflow, but could work wonders for sound design, if it's effective. I simply must test this idea. Writing this right here right now so I remember to do the tests. 🙌
