No Limit Remix
latest thing i've been working on for my club classics sets. I've followed the arrangement roughly from the original but with a simple intro & a switch up at the end into a more trancey lead out. The vocal is an ai removal so not squeaky clean but good enough for what i want. I used the main original stab from the track. I wasnt very sure on the hoover stabs origin, i had a few chats with @Owen Palmer about its possible source. In the end i went with the Dominator one, ran it through Quadrafuzz and layered it with my own lead from serum. I think its modernised that sound quite nicely. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/rb0l5vkn1ssuodirmytmk/no-limit-sept-20th.wav?rlkey=wky2254ry93dilp5hoak6carw&st=naklxlku&dl=0 and i've also bounced my pre mixdown version after @Evgeny Bardyuzha thread from last week. I'd say as far as my usual pre mixdown arrangements go ,this is quite tidy compared to others and its where i left it and decided that it would be ready to start refining & mixing. I set the master gain at -6db doing this as well so i'm not pushing too hard into the limiter whilst working on the arrangement. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/72d62a2ktjep8fr8cn1l5/no-limit-arrangement-pre-mixdown.wav?rlkey=gq4463qt7zhk02dv9tb9jumle&st=mb8srruu&dl=0

@Owen Palmer thankyou 🙌
Remix I did for Stereo Mind recently
(Warning - its prog breaks so it goes on a bit if you are used to 3-4 min tracks) This was a really tricky one as all the stems were drenched in massive reverbs / really wide and had loads of delays. I wanted mine to sound the same but different. the original was all about a wide active midrange, and my styles are typically darker and more stripped back. Also the bassline was a stabby arp which spanned 3 octaves - so extracting the higher notes to control the midrange above my bass was also tricky. I ended up pulling everything more centrally, and taking out as much reverb from the stems as I dared and making the bass wide. Should have done more drum edits etc but ran out of time. Positives: - sounds better balance wise than the stuff I was doing before, I felt like the OTG techniques actually made me act with purpose rather than just sidechaining everything with trackspacer to everything else to make space. - Used a lot of the breakbeat processing techniques I've learned on here which made me really happy. - Defo less harsh in tops/general resonance control than my normal stuff - All the sounds I introduced I made from scratch ( a first for me) - also used Rich Rath's delay plug for that muted midrange 16ths sound (really liked that) - Built my own kick (WOOHOO!) What I wasn't happy with: - A few resonances/volume levels in some of the stabby elements and drums/percs needed more work - Arrangement was boring - Hats were boring/repetitive - Some of the breakbeat filtering and edits just didn't come through how I intended - Stereo was just all wrong overall Felt like progress overall though - I hadn't unlocked Clearmix content at the time I finished it. https://soundcloud.com/delta_horizon_music/stereo-mind-silent-orbit/s-TRFHkmR9QiB?si=b0c1532ba7ba48c59af09bf7febc15c6&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

@Dean Jehan track not found? 🧐
Screeching Seagull
wasnt expecting to do this today but my mate sent me a recording this morning of him on the radio being interviewed after winning the Braunton seagull screeching competition 😂😂😂 and said make something out of it. so i gave myself 4 hours and here is what i've done. The recording was from a phone recording the radio, so obviously it's terrible quality and with background noise but i've done my best in the short time. I had my kick and snare ready to go from my presets but everything else is made from scratch or a sample - no prep frame. after the 4 hours i took a break then 10 more minutes for tidying up best i could. i'll include the original recording below as well. 😅

@Toivo Toikka its a great idea / tune 😎- all the elements are there it just needs tightening up. I agree with @Owen Palmer about the timing issues. I'm guessing you've tried to give the track as much groove / loose feel as possible? but maybe gone a bit too far with it. I think you nail that and it will pull it all together much nicer. 🙌

@Toivo Toikka The Timing is much better now 😎🥳 theres a percussion element in there that stands out to me now - a closed hat / shaker you can hear it most in the breakdown at 3.32. i think the pattern will work but the sound or the way it sits in the mix doesnt sound right to me. when its playing with all elements ( kick etc ) it sounds like its just thrown in at the minute. massive improvement with the timing though 🙌
The process of track creation. Mixing after or during?
Hello guys. I need your opinion on how to distribute your time and efforts during the process of creating a track from scratch. I found myself in a methodological trap trying to mix during production and writing. I always do everything in parallel, however I'm in a doubt because it has some cons that I really feel. So I think if you try to mix or engineer the sound BEFORE you have completed the musical ideas you risk to spend much more time and even get very tired of the track you are working on. And I've got tired of a couple of latest tracks trying to make them sound as perfect as possible.

@Evgeny Bardyuzha i like the creativity of writing / arranging without having to think about any technical details. i can generally hear an arrangement in my head straight away and i just get it down asap then go back through it and refine until i reach a point where i think its ready for mixing. then i'll leave it days sometimes weeks and come back to it with fresh ears, make any obvious changes, clean up any sounds & refine things, then start the mixing process. People might not agree but i dont see mixing generally as creative, its technical to me and honestly i find it tedious & very difficult alot of the time so i dont want it to interfere with the part i do enjoy - the actual making of music. I will say though as Owen has been drilling into us the upstream philosophy my initial arrangements sound designs & selections have been getting much better thus making the mixing process far more streamlined, easier & enjoyable. Yes i'm happy with it & i dont think atm i will try the other method, the thought of having say a 16 bar loop and mixing it then building outwards from that doesnt appeal to me when there is nothing else there yet.
