1920s makeup was NOT shy... and that’s exactly why it’s so fun. 😂
This was the decade when makeup really started coming out of the dressing room and into everyday fashion. The classic look was all about very thin brows, dark dramatic eyes, rosy cheeks and that tiny perfectly shaped Cupid’s bow lip.
Eyes were often rimmed in dark liner and shadow for that smoky, slightly mysterious look we associate with silent film stars. Brows were plucked thin and sometimes drawn downward toward the temples, which gave the face that wonderfully dramatic 1920s expression.
And then there were the lips. ❤️ Deep reds, berries and burgundies were applied to exaggerate the Cupid’s bow while making the mouth appear smaller. Add rouge high on the cheeks and suddenly you’ve got Clara Bow energy.
