Do you own a fascinator... and where would you actually wear yours?👒 The fascinator as we know it today came later, but its vintage cousins were everywhere in the 1940s and 50s. Women wore tiny doll hats, cocktail hats, half hats and little decorative headpieces perched at an angle instead of covering the entire head. And they could get FUN. Think little veils over the eyes, feathers, velvet bows, flowers, pearls and netting. They were basically jewelry for your hair... and the perfect finishing touch when a dress needed a little something extra. By the 1950s, tiny cocktail hats could be incredibly glamorous and were designed to work WITH those beautifully styled curls and updos instead of hiding them. Today we call many of these little statement headpieces fascinators, and honestly... they're one of the easiest vintage accessories to bring into a modern wardrobe. Would you bring calling cards back? Before texting “I’m outside” 😂 people used calling cards when visiting someone’s home. If the person wasn’t there, you’d leave your card behind… and sometimes the way it was folded added extra meaning. • A turned-down corner could show you delivered it personally • Some folds showed the visit was meant for the whole household • “P.P.C.” meant pour prendre congé… basically, “goodbye, I’m leaving town” The funny part? If you don’t already follow Shirin Altsohn, aka @Shirinatra, prepare to lose some time scrolling through her page. 😂 Shirin is a German vintage content creator, designer and artist who calls herself a “fashion chameleon” because she doesn’t stick to just one decade. Her looks jump everywhere from the 1920s through the 1970s, with lots of Old Hollywood inspiration mixed in. Her outfits are BEAUTIFUL, but what I really love is how wearable they are. She’ll take inspiration from Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe or Brigitte Bardot and turn it into something you could actually recreate today. She also shares vintage hair tutorials, makeup, outfit ideas and some seriously gorgeous photography.
