We control bat path by first understanding the arc of the swing.
The barrel works around you.
Not at the ball. Around you.
The goal is a clean arc that enters through the back of the zone, stays through the middle, and exits through the front.
That’s what gives you coverage and real carry.
When the arc is right:
• You stay on plane longer
• You cover more pitch locations
• You drive the ball with depth
What ruins it?
• Losing your body off the ball
• Drifting forward
• Casting your hands over the plate
• Letting the barrel get away from your center
Once the arc widens or shifts forward, direction disappears.
Simple drill:
Use a mirror.
Set up sideways.
Move slow.
Watch the barrel trace around your body.
You should see the barrel travel from behind you, through the zone, and out front — without your hands shooting away from your body.
The mirror gives you instant feedback.
If you can see the arc, you can control the arc.
If you control the arc, you control your direction.
