No Promotions or Selling Allowed...
This will not become a spam dumpster. If you have something to promote you first must achieve a certain tier. (Yet to be determined) And at that point you will have to submitted a request and we will actually interview you on what you have to offer. The exception is trucking gear and equipment. There is a place that you can post trucking gear and equipment. (If you joined to pitch, sale, abuse the community, you might as well turn around now.) The workaround and shortcut to that, is to become a Founding Member. More on that Later. Meanwhile welcome and enjoy! Hervy

Welcome to Off Duty Truckers
Start Here – Welcome to Off Duty Truckers Welcome. You’re here because you’re thinking beyond just driving more miles. Off Duty Truckers is a space for drivers who want real options — not hype, not pressure, and not “get rich quick” nonsense. What we focus on here: - Off-duty income ideas (while you’re still driving) - Long-term thinking - Honest conversations about money, time, relationships and lifestyle - Practical paths out of trucking — when and if that makes sense for you This is not a hype group. No gurus. No pressure. No selling in the main feed. I’ve been in trucking for 20+ years. I’ve left, come back, invested, experimented, and learned the hard way. This community exists so drivers can think ahead without being judged for it. How to get the most out of this group Start by introducing yourself below 👇 You don’t need a life story. Just share: - How long you’ve been trucking - What you’re running (company / O/O / lease) - What you’re curious about outside of driving If you want, post a pic of your truck — inside, outside, or both. Optional question: 👉 If there were a yearly Off Duty Truckers meetup, how would you feel about Puerto Plata, DR? After that: 1. Ask real questions 2. Read the pinned “Guidelines” post 3. Share what you’re learning along the way I go live for Q&A and discussion periodically. Show up if you can. Catch the replay if you can’t. Think long-term. Stay grounded. Make an effort. Glad you’re here. — Hervy

What's the Biggest Mistake New CDL Drivers Make When Choosing Their First Job?
Most drivers can look back and point to one thing they wish they had known before taking that first trucking job. Maybe it was: - Believing the recruiter too easily - Focusing only on cents per mile - Ignoring home time - Choosing the wrong freight type - Going with the first company that said yes - Not asking enough questions about training If you could sit down with a brand-new CDL graduate for five minutes and give them one piece of advice before they accepted their first job, what would it be? And for newer drivers: What's the biggest surprise you've discovered since getting your CDL? The goal isn't to complain about companies. The goal is to help the next generation avoid mistakes many of us learned the hard way.

Is Home Time About Quantity or Quality?
A lot of drivers say they want more home time. But here's a question: Would you rather be home every weekend but completely exhausted... or spend a little more time on the road and come home actually able to enjoy your family? Many trucking companies advertise "home weekly," but that can mean very different things. Some drivers get home Friday afternoon and leave Sunday night. Others get home Saturday morning, sleep half the weekend, and head back out before sunrise Monday. So what's more important to you? - More frequent home time? - Longer stretches at home? - Predictable schedules? - Maximum earning potential? For the married drivers and parents here: What schedule has worked best for your family, and what schedule nearly wrecked your home life? Let's hear the real-world answers, not the recruiting brochure versions.
