I got inspire to start this discussion by some comments by @Benedict Marchand and @Vlad Radu in @Benedict Marchand introduction post about when interesting ideas and thoughts come into mind. I sometimes find that my mind is so busy with thoughts that sometimes I have difficulty sleeping or can even be distracted by random thoughts while I'm trying to focus on work or studying. Sometimes my thoughts can be about new and exciting ideas, but sometimes they can also be worrying about something I did in the past or something I will have to deal with in the near future. Does anybody also feel like they can become distracted by their own mind? What are your experiences with coping with a busy mind and trying to focus on tasks? I also had a discussion with a friend recently about how a busy mind could be related to and differ among people base on the way in which we were born to perceive thoughts. My friend has aphantasia where all of his thoughts are abstract and he does not have an inner dialogue and is not able to have any mental visualization. I think I may have hyperphantaisa where I have extremely vivid mental imagery and a very loud inner dialogue. Both my friend and I both get distracted by our busy minds, but in quite different ways. So, I'm wondering what everyone's experience with this also is? Do you see / hear your thoughts? Or are they only completely abstract? @Toby Brauer @Daniella de Freitas Would you possibly have any nuggets about the differences between aphantasia and hyperphantaisa in related to the thought / idea process and would there possibly be different advice for either group to cope with getting distracted by their thoughts?
