People tell me that all the time, about themselves, usually with some pride in it.
And from the outside it is true. The founders and executives I work with rarely look stressed. They look composed. Handled. Like the steadiest person in the room.
Then we slow down, and the body starts telling a quieter story.
I know this one from the inside, the pattern of it.
Dysregulation in high performers almost never looks like falling apart. It looks like functioning, with a cost nobody itemized. Today I want to give you the three signs I see most often, the ones people recognize in themselves within about ten seconds of hearing them.
The jaw that never got the memo.
Shoulders up. Teeth set. A neck that aches at the end of a day spent sitting down. Most people carrying this have carried it so long they call it posture. It is not posture. It is a guard that went up years ago and never received word that it could come down. If your shoulders drop a full inch when you finally notice them, they were working all day.
Wired at night, flat in the morning.
The day ends and the mind speeds up. Replay, rehearse, scroll, sleep lightly. Then the alarm, and there is nothing in the tank, even after eight hours in bed. That is not bad sleep. That is guarded sleep. The system never stood down, so it never refilled. Coffee ends up doing the job rest was hired for.
Numb, and calling it calm.
This is the quietest one. Success lands and feels like nothing. A conversation is happening and some part of you has left it. Scrolling without reading. People assume it is steadiness, and it can look exactly like steadiness from across a table. But calm has warmth in it. Numbness turned the volume down on joy and grief together, because feeling everything got too expensive.
None of these are diagnoses, and I am not offering them as one. They are patterns to notice. And patterns, once you can feel them while they are happening, stop running the whole show.
There are four more signs in the full piece on the site, the gut, the short fuse at home, the shallow breath, the conversations that never end. For today, three is plenty. Start where you recognized yourself.
Here is one small practice, for the morning sign especially.
Tomorrow, before the phone, before the scan of messages and numbers, give your body the first sixty seconds.
Feet on the floor. Shoulders down. Jaw unclenched.
One breath in, and a longer one out, twice.
Then let the day start. That is not a routine. It is a message, sent in the body’s own language, that the watch does not have to start before you do.
Do it for a week and watch which of the three signs gets quieter first. Your system will usually tell you the order itself.
If you want to go one layer deeper, the useful question is not how to try harder at relaxing. It is which survival pattern is running your guarding in the first place, because each pattern charges the body differently. We built a free diagnostic for exactly that, two minutes, and the practice that builds on it is the Reset Protocol. You can find that diagnotic in the Nervous System Mastery (VIP) program to help you discover exactly what's stopping you from finally transforming and what to do about it.
So, gently, before you close this...
Which of these three signs has been running the longest, the one you stopped noticing because it started to feel like just who you are?
Hit reply and tell me. I read every one.
I’ll see you on the path,
Guy
