My Rock-Smashing Spot
In Course 2, I posted the videos showing what kinds of rocks I collect when I'm out foraging. Next week in Course 3, I'll go over what I do with them once I get them home. Here's a little glimpse into the space where I break larger rocks down to smaller sizes suitable for crushing in the mortar & pestles. It's a messy little outdoors corner, but has all the things I need. It's also where I empty my pockets and bags after I've been out walking and can't help but come home with rocks.
Back on Track
In my non-art life, I'm a real estate agent. Around noon I had to go to one of my listings that is about 2 hours away to put a lockbox on the door so an agent could show it to his clients. There was just no way to do the Zoom call in the middle of the sudden upheaval and running around. Ordinarily I have some flexibility, but I did not in this case and I hated to cancel the Zoom. But, before that call came in I did manage to get the videos filmed for both making the watercolor binder AND making a rough paint from the rock crushed in the previous segment on using the mortar and pestle. I'll get the videos edited and uploaded over the next day or two and they should both be ready before Wednesday. Look at that pretty color:

a painting process video
I just uploaded what may be a boring video of a painting in progress of a barn owl using my handmade soot black to make the underpainting, lol. It's just part of a new series (free) that I'll be posting here about how I use my own paints to make paintings. I forgot to start doing this when the canvas was completely blank, so it picks up shortly after I started, and then I forgot again on the latest session, so there's photos to show to the point where it is now. The painting progress videos will all be indexed under the 'Open Studio' tile on the Classroom tab as I get them made. Here's the first one: https://youtu.be/b7d4tdxEFm0 The next video in the Making Paint course will upload by Wednesday, and it'll be on making the watercolor binder.
