Hopwood Sport Arena Pickleball is happening in 14 days
Tip of the day
Match your swing size to your court position. The closer you are to the net, the more compact your swing should be since the ball has less distance to travel. The farther back you are near the baseline, the bigger your swing can be to generate more power.

Welcome
Hey all So...... Question: Why are we here? Answer: I don't mean why do we exist, simply, we are here to learn about pickleball and how to get better. Question: But WHY here? Answer: We LOVE pickleball....... Obvs Question: But why HERE? Answer: Let's face it - if I go looking for pickleball stuff on Facebook, I'll be bombarded with ads for things I didn't even know I needed to know about or things I just HAVE to buy, or find out that Sue has been on holiday with Clive and they took their miniature schnauzer to the beach. I'm easily distracted by something shiny and lose focus on getting better at my third shot drop.... and I really need to nail that third shot drop.... although that miniature schnauzer is kinda cute..... Oh man, a miniature schnauzer is going to cost a fortune..... quick....close Facebook......Open Youtube.... Wow, look at that, a free to use platform that tells me everything I need to do. All at once. At the 3.5 level, 4.0 level, 4.5 level - oh god.... they're all so good and everything works first time and I still don't know a Nasty Nelson from an Ernie (wait, isn't he in the Muppets...), or a body bag from a Body Shop bag... do they still exist by the way???? So this is intended to break....it....down. Make it easy to focus on one thing at a time. Deconstruct the point, work on little things, repeat it, get better over time and make it sustainable. We're going to eat an elephant. The metaphor "eating an elephant" means that large, overwhelming, or impossible-looking tasks can be accomplished if you break them down into small, manageable pieces and tackle them gradually. To break down the metaphor and apply it to your own goals: - The Core Meaning: Just as it is physically impossible to swallow an elephant whole, trying to complete a massive project (like writing a novel, paying off debt, or getting better at pickleball) all at once will only lead to burnout and anxiety. - The Strategy: Success comes from chunking. By focusing on small, actionable steps—or just improving by "1% a day"—you build momentum and eventually finish the entire project - The Psychology: Celebrating small, consistent victories relieves psychological pressure and keeps you motivated rather than fixating on the intimidating final goal.
