Why am I like this?
Mogulmommas,
My friends and colleagues use a word in reference to me that, frankly, irritates me: "You're so busy!"
I have to ask why. What do people see that is different from what they want to see? It's something people only say to women. A man who is getting things done is praised and respected. But a woman is silently criticized for doing too much.
Then I realized that people confuse busy with ACTIVE. They confuse someone who is doing a lot to someone who is doing EVERYTHING she wants to do with her life.
And another thing... people who complain that I'm busy don't know the years I wasted in a bad marriage, broke, despondent, homeless with four babies. The years (YEARS) I sat on the couch watching Lifetime movies because I didn't want to be inside my own life. The tubs of ice cream I ate to numb the pain, gaining weight, feeling awful and emotionally broken.
And there's something else they don't know... They don't know that I am now actualizing the life I put on my vision board. I'M WORKING MY PLAN. See, there came a point when I decided to stop waiting for my life to look the way I wished it would.
So, I got ACTIVE!
The marriage failed (both of them!). I hadn't written a single book. I hadn't started the business. The children were almost grown, and I looked around and realized I spent twenty years taking care of everybody except the woman in the mirror.
Maybe you're starting over at 40. Or 50. Or 60. Maybe you've got $83 in your checking account and a dream that requires $83,000. Maybe the credit cards are maxed out. Maybe you're sleeping on the seam of the mattress to be as far away from "him" as possible.
I want you to have the audacity to still believe you can pull it off. Don't just get BUSY. Get ACTIVE. Because I need you to understand something: It doesn't matter if you are late. Who cares if you're behind because somebody else bought the house first. Don't worry that her business took off faster. Don't feel stuck because "she" got married, got promoted, lost the weight, wrote the book, traveled the world, retired early, or figured out how to make sourdough bread while somehow raising emotionally healthy children.
God bless her. But her timeline has absolutely nothing to do with yours.
Your job is to build now. Get BUSY. Get ACTIVE.
MOGUL doesn't mean perfect. It means we're building. So build! Build the savings account. Build the business. Build the credit. Build the body. Build the boundaries. Build the friendships. Build the relationship with God. Build the courage to walk into rooms where nobody invited you.
Build the thing you've been talking about building for five years. Or ten? Twenty?
And please hear me on this one: You do not need to have everything before you begin. I started with $83. I started with a computer held together by prayer and duck tape and a charger that only worked if I bent it to the left. I was scared. I was embarrassed. I was uninformed. But I did it anyway. I got BUSY.
Start while people you love are quietly wondering whether you've lost your mind. Because six months from now, you can either have six months of excuses... or six months of evidence that you got active about your life.
Evidence that you kept going.
Evidence that you learned.
Evidence that you got stronger.
Evidence that you survived the rejection.
Evidence that you finally charged what you're worth.
Evidence that you stopped begging people to see your value and started building something too valuable to ignore.
This community isn't about pretending we have it all together. We don't. I don't. Some of us are building empires while looking for our glasses that are currently sitting on top of our heads. (I do it all the time!) I've still got 60 pounds to lose and 100 more properties to buy. That's why I'm busy. And, no, this life isn't for everyone. I'm only talking to the women who believe it is. Because here's what I know. Most people die at 25 and just wait 50 years to get buried.
*************So here's my question for you today***************
What is ONE thing you are going to do before this week ends that your future self will thank you for? Not ten things. One. Put it in the comments. Then go do it. Let me help you do it if you need me. Because somewhere between the woman you are today and the woman you're praying to become is a woman who finally decided:
I'm done waiting. I'm BUSY. I'm building. I'm ACTIVE. And I'm loving it!
