Passing X-Guard
I’ve been running into a problem passing X-Guard and wanted to get some feedback. Experience Level: Purple belt Position: Opponent playing standard X-Guard Problem: When I try to step my trapped leg free, my opponent off-balances me and either sweeps or transitions into single leg X. What I’m currently doing: • Trying to control the top leg with my hands • Attempting to step my free leg back to create base • Looking to clear the hook and move into a headquarters-style position Question: Is the key here more about controlling their top leg, or should I be focusing on changing my angle before trying to free the leg? Curious how others prefer to approach X-Guard passing.
Introduction
I earned my blue belt in 2024 from category five BJJ in Hurricane, West Virginia. I currently work a decent paying blue collar job (auto detailing). Shameless self plug, but you can find me @Caleb_the_grappler on Instagram. Fav position: Mount or any leg entanglement. Fav submission: Inside heel hook, or RNC. What I'm currently working on: Bodylock/ Half guard passing, and general strength and conditioning.

How Are You Structuring Your S&C Training?
I’m interested in how others approach strength and conditioning alongside grappling training. Do you follow a structured program, or do you just lift when it fits around your training schedule? A few questions: - How many days per week are you lifting? - What types of movements do you prioritize? - Have you found certain exercises that translate well to grappling? Curious to hear how others are structuring their training.
BJJ and Coffee?
Who would be into a weekly/monthly video call to chat about their game and what struggles they’re dealing with? Perhaps early on a Saturday or Sunday?
