Open Stance Principles in Action – Usyk vs Dubois
I’m only three rounds into this fight, and it already feels like a bit of a masterpiece from Usyk. The way he navigates the open stance—Southpaw vs Orthodox—is just so clear. Foot position, occupying hands, directional choices, subtle control of space. But also: how he plays with rhythm, timing, tempo shifts. How he distracts, moves just enough to create reactions, manipulates his opponent’s hands and position to open space for clean contact. He switches it up constantly, but always with purpose. The principles of fighting in open stance—what options you have, how you fight for position, how you use your hands, what directions you can move—are relatively simple to explain on a general level. But watching someone actually play the game at this depth is something else. That’s what makes this so exciting to watch. Anyone down to study this fight together in a live Discord session? Drop a comment if that’s something you’d be into—or just share what details you noticed in those first rounds.
