Dustin Poirier reacts to Ilia Topuria’s move to 155: ‘I would give him a crack at the lightweight title right off the bat’
Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier has weighed in on Ilia Topuria's decision to move up to 155 pounds, expressing openness to the idea of the newly crowned featherweight champ competing for the lightweight title.
Topuria, fresh off his dominant win over Alexander Volkanovski, recently vacated his featherweight belt and set his sights on the lightweight division. While some question whether he deserves an immediate title shot, Poirier believes Topuria has the skills to make a serious impact.
“I would give him a crack at the lightweight title,” Poirier stated, recognizing Topuria’s talent and confidence. However, with contenders like Islam Makhachev, Charles Oliveira, and Justin Gaethje in the mix, Topuria’s path to gold at 155 could be a challenging one.
