I'm gonna say something that might trigger you. Your to-do list is making you LESS productive. Here's why:
When you look at a list of 15 tasks, you do one of two things, Freeze. Too many options = paralysis. Cherry-pick the easy stuff. You stay "busy" all day but nothing actually moves the needle. Sound familiar?
I used to do this every single day. Then I started using what I call the 3-Task Rule, and it changed everything. Here's how it works:
Every morning, ask yourself ONE question: "If I could only complete 3 things today and the rest disappeared, what would move my business forward the most?" That's it. Write down 3. Not 5. Not "3 big ones and a few small ones." Three. Why 3 works:
It kills decision fatigue before your day starts. You're not choosing between 15 things all day long. The decision is already made. It creates a finish line. Open-ended work drains motivation.
Three tasks gives you a clear endpoint, and hitting it builds real momentum. It forces prioritization. When you only get 3 slots, you can't hide behind busy work. You HAVE to pick what actually matters.
Categorize your 3 tasks like this: 🟢 1 Revenue Task, something that directly makes you money (sales call, launching an offer, following up with a lead) 🟡 1 Growth Task, something that builds long-term momentum (content, networking, skill development) 🔴 1 Operations Task, something that keeps the machine running (invoicing, emails, admin) This way you're never spending an entire day on one category while the others fall apart.
What most people get wrong: they treat this like a minimum. "I'll do my 3 and THEN do more." Nope. The rule only works if 3 is the ceiling, not the floor. If you finish early, you rest. You recharge. You protect your energy for tomorrow.
Entrepreneurs don't burn out from laziness. They burn out from doing too much on good days and crashing on bad ones. The 3-Task Rule flattens that cycle. Try it for 5 days. Just 5. Then come back here and tell me what shifted.
