It's not talking to ETs or angels or even meditation, it's just taking care of my animal body.
It's boring and repetitive and never ending but it makes the most significant difference in my spiritual and mental health.
The PLEASE skill is the bedrock of my life and having this puppy has really helped cement my understanding of how important it is. When you have a dog you never fail to give them fresh food and water, take them on walks, play with them and get them adequate sleep.
These basics are the front line of defense against all kinds of spiritual and mental malaise and if they are not happening, it is unreasonable to expect for sanity to be present, let alone spiritual satisfaction.
So let me break it down:
Pl- treat physical illness
E- balanced eating
A- avoid mood altering substances
S- adequate sleep
E- balanced exercise
If you feel like you're not sure if you're keeping up with these or want to reconnect with them but find it overwhelming or hard to do, tracking it can be incredibly helpful. I have a daily tracking sheet I use on a Google sheet which is super simple but there are endless apps out there. Tracking increases awareness and motivation and connects you with the present moment which increases a sense of contentment.
When we put the animal body first, the spiritual becomes more balanced, becomes something to add sweetness to life and less a desperate attempt to save us from the agony of being a person, the old "chop wood, carry water" is pretty right on. xo, z
