Midweek reset 👀
Before we move on to new organisms…let’s recap the 5 organisms currently in the Vault classroom 👇
This is all about reinforcing patterns so you can recognize them faster on exams.
Case Study:
A patient presents with pneumonia.
Gram stain shows Gram-positive diplococci (lancet-shaped).
Alpha-hemolytic on blood agar.
💡 The most likely organism is:
👉 Streptococcus pneumoniae
🧠 Why?
• Gram-positive diplococci → points toward S. pneumoniae
• Lancet-shaped → classic morphology clue
• Alpha-hemolysis → narrows it down from beta-hemolytic strep
💡 This is a high-yield exam pattern.
Instead of memorizing, focus on recognizing:
👉 Morphology + Hemolysis + Clinical presentation
That’s how you identify organisms faster.
💙 Save this for review — this is a board favorite.
