What is Golden Week? (ゴールデンウィーク)
Golden Week is one of Japan's biggest and longest holiday periods of the year. It happens from late April to early May, and it's a chain of 4 national holidays close together.

- Travel — Many families travel inside Japan or go abroad
- Visit hometowns — Going back to see parents and relatives (帰省 / kisei)
- BBQ and outdoor activities — Spring weather is beautiful
- Theme parks — Disneyland, USJ, etc. are super crowded
- Carp streamers (鯉のぼり) — Families with boys hang colorful fish-shaped flags for Children's Day
Things to Know
- Crowded everywhere! 😵 Trains, airports, highways, and tourist spots are packed
- Prices go up — Hotels and flights become very expensive
- Many small shops close — Family-run stores often take a break
- Big cities get quiet — Because everyone leaves Tokyo and Osaka
