The Pause
I didn’t want to die.
I wanted the noise to stop.
I drank for quiet.
Used for relief.
Loved the pause—
that moment
where shame shut up.
Addiction whispered,
just tonight,
and I listened.
I wasn’t weak.
I was surviving
with the wrong medicine.
I left shaking.
I left craving.
But I left.
That mattered.
