Life is a series of initiations.
A loss. A heartbreak. A death. A breakdown. A birth. A moment where everything you thought you knew begins to dissolve. These are the thresholds that shape us.
For some people, they become catalysts for deep transformation. They awaken courage, humility, compassion, purpose, and a deeper connection to the soul.
For others, these same moments can become places where they get stuck. The pain becomes an identity and the same story repeats itself again and again.
Along my journey, I’ve had more initiations than I could possibly count. I’ve nearly lost my life on several occasions. I’ve lost people around me. I’ve walked through deep seasons of depression, uncertainty, heartbreak, spiritual unraveling and moments where I had no idea who I was becoming or where life was taking me.
At the time, many of these moments felt confusing and painful. Looking back, I can see they were shaping me.
They softened places in me that had become guarded. They brought me closer to my heart. They stripped away layers of identity, illusion, and control. They taught me how to surrender, how to listen, how to grieve, how to trust, and how to keep walking when the path disappeared beneath my feet.
And I believe this is what so many of us are moving through collectively right now.
A great initiation.
It feels like humanity is inside a birth canal. There is pressure, contraction, darkness, uncertainty and a deep squeeze that can feel overwhelming when you are in the middle of it.
Old systems are breaking down. Old identities are dissolving. Old ways of living, leading, relating, consuming, and surviving are being brought to the surface.
This journey is raw, it’s primal, messy and sacred. It requires us to surrender and trust that something new is trying to come through, even when we cannot fully see it yet.
This is the path of initiation.
I recently listened to this podcast with Native elder, Jasper Young Bear and thought you may enjoy the wisdom he shares around this entire journey we’re all on.
