Standing on a stage, whether it's a skool community, a live-event with hundreds of listeners, a presentation to the stakeholders in your company or even just a toast on a friend's wedding. Can be daunting or even terrifying.
You get your papers ready, you rehearse a thousand times but it doesn't seem to land.
I used to be in this exact same spot, Until I discovered this simple technique to help you stand boldly and give that Speech with a soul, not just words.
Here's how to replicate it.
✅ Soul prep: Before you start working on that presentation or sales pitch, before you even think about what you're going to say, Spend some time alone, quiet. Pray, Meditate, humbly feeling the need for guidance. If you want to give a presentation that reach people's souls then your own soul must be aligned, calm anchored like still water. People look for those on a stage for guidance, inspiration, or even a simple solution to a problem they're facing, if you're trembling on the inside it will show in your Speech, Spend as little or as much time you need to feel. Still, even just 5 minutes would go a long way in getting that Speech to the next level
✅Heart-Prep: Get that Pen and Paper out / Laptop, and let's get to work (no not on your words, not yet)
Plot down these questions:
# Who am I speaking to?
# What Pains them?
# What matters to them?
# How can I remove what pains them and elevate what matters to them?
This is the point where your answers should start with "I" not they
Ex: who am I speaking to?
I am my boss - my client - my audience in X Conference
And so on and so forth.
Make sure that you not only write about someone or a group of folks but really feel their pain, feel the tightness of their shoes and the relief of taking those shoes off.
🔑key note: This speech, even if you're doing it for a gain, isn't about you, don't let the thought of "am I likable?" Even cross your mind. Keep your mind, heart and soul aligned onto one thing and one thing alone, the pain and hope of those you are speaking to.
Because, When you really feel their pain, You will speak the language they use, describe what they're going through. Giving your Speech depth and weight. Not only to your words, but also to your eventual conclusion/Solution
✅Mind-Prep: Now is the time to get the words together, if it's a topic you still need to research, do your paperwork, if it's something personal or you already got the knowledge needed you could move on to the next step.
✅ Green-light: Using all the rich insight we gathered throughout this journey, start writing the key-notes or bullet points for your presentation. With your mindset Lazer focused on solving or Amusing the other side.
There are lots of ways to outline your speech, you can even draw some inspiration from AI, but I usually take a story narrative: Problem - Struggle or Journey - Resolution.
Some people Stop there, Prefer to write a detailed script.
✅ Finalizing: Here's how to tell when to do either
If you're prepping for a video form and you need to lip-sync later, Scripting word for word might be best
If you're not comfortable improvising based on key-notes, Scripting will help keep you aligned so you don't forget your points (even if you don't memorize it word for word)
Vice Versa, If you lack time or feel a bit confident in your Improvision, stop with the key notes knowing your start and finish
And there you have it.
God Bless you and May Your Next Speech Be a Soul Igniting One.
