A tool for the salsa /mambo dancer
I previously wrote how it is sometimes difficult for new mambo dancers to hear and dance to the beat of the music. There is an app I use in my teaching to help my students dance on the beat and in time with the music. It's called the Salsa Beat Machine/ Salsa Rhythm Machine which can be downloaded from Google Play or the App Store. The app can isolate and play each salsa instrument and play each one at a different bpm ( beats pper minute ) . It even has an instructor voice that can call out the timing of the music and set the clave 3/2 or 2/3 . It doesn't matter if you dance ON1 or ON2 .Get this app. It can really help your mambo dancing .Keep on dancing !

Apologies...
Apologies for not being as communicative lately... that change of temps this past weekend has gripped me up and the post nasal drip is rough. Trying to get better so I can at least attend an event Sat night to see the shows, even if I don't dance... I feel much better and am taking all the things to be healthier!
Transitioning to Mambo
Hola Everyone, This message is actually for Mike Osborne . I see that you and your wife are professional ball room dancers who are transitioning to mambo thru Mambolab . I met and befriended a professional ball room dance couple over 20 + years ago at the Puerto Rico World Salsa Congress held at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan. . They are Tony and Melanie ball room dance champions who also loved salsa ( I hope I got their names right , long time ) We met again at several more congresses in New York and Puerto Rico. They eventually retired from competition and opened their own dance studio iin New York , right in Times Square , teaching salsa & ball room . They are an inspiration to others making the transition to salsa / mambo ! Take care and keep on dancing !

Afro Mambo
Hi everyone. I have been focusing my dance practice on those videos that include some afro mambo fusion. The November 18 , 2025 core lab intermediate foot work class caught my attention for various reasons. In this class Elian teaches a lot of pachanga , cha,, cha, cha and cumbia moves that include some afro .I have been trying to learn pachanga for sme time now . Elian and. Ashley are very enthusiastic, motivated and tireless ( incansable ) . They provide a lot of upper body coordination with the foot work. Ashley makes sure they are including some afro body movement such as shoulder rolls , shaking , and shimmying. She compliments the sstudens who put more effort into the afro body moves . In the Special Workshops area July 3 Body Movement Workshop, Ashley teaches some very useful exercises and drills from Afrocuban folklore and popular dance . I practice these moves constantly that involve body isolation , speed and timing variation of the torso and foot work.. I especially like the body undulations and body waves ..I call it serpentine movement ( snake movement ) I like the music she uses ; Masacote- Jose Manguaal Buya and muisic by Alexander Abreu . I hope to level up to level 3 and unlock the Playlist so that I practice with the actual music used in the classes.
