I saw a lot of my old friends over the weekend. One of them brought up a good point. We've all taken such different paths. Many of them are married now, and some even with kids.
I was asking one of my friends about his kids. He started talking about fatherhood and how rewarding it has been. For some reason, a thought from a totally separate conversation started to come out of my mouth. Someone else had told me that parenthood had been difficult. But my friend wasn't talking about that. So I practiced Active Listening: "Oh? What makes fatherhood rewarding and fulfilling?"
He was so excited to share the special and meaningful aspects of raising his children, and I was so happy listening to my friend talk about what means the world to him right now.
Active Listening saved my conversation. All I needed was to cast aside my own lens - assumptions, projections, etc. and listen to him, showing genuine interest and repeating his words to reflect back to him just how fulfilling his chosen path has been for him 😊✨❤️
Active Listening rules! I'm so grateful to be learning it here along with the rest of The A.L.I.C.E. Method!!! <3 🙏🩵
