Giving Everyone The Spotlight: Making Sure No One Gets Left Out
Hello all!
Something has been on my mind recently, and it has to do with how I take pictures and who I take pictures of. This includes, but is not limited to-
-Every band member during a performance🎸🎸🥁🎙️
I try my best to give everyone the photos they deserve, especially during shows. Big or small doesn't matter the act or venue, to me I feel like there will always be a case of band members in every band not being appreciated. This means taking photos of each member could help build their confidence when performing.
Not only that, but it also helps in a sense that those photos are something they will look back on for years to come. No matter how "bad" or good you think the photos look, always remember that a lot of bands appreciate the gesture. Consider it your gift to them! 😁
-Concert/show goers👾
I know it seems meaningless at first, but just keep in mind that while there would be a lot of movement especially for concerts, no matter big or small will be harder to capture. My favourite trick is to capture stagnant moments such as when the crowd is really into the music but at the same time move less. These are the perfect times to get their photos. If you're unsure of how to capture the photos or how to position yourself, I suggest practicing at least a week or a month before getting your desired shot. Practice, but also apply the technical and practical theories- envision/plan ahead on how you want your photos to look like.
Furthermore, expect the worst. Not everything will go your way. Try to learn and adapt to your surroundings, especially for gigs and shows that tend to have energetic crowds. Those are the hardest and if the situation is too overwhelming, try taking photos from a distance. Do not overexert yourself or push yourself to do things you feel that you are unfamiliar with. Take it slow, bear in mind that it isn't a race. 🤷🏻

Ah yes, the team behind it all... making sure that everything goes smoothly.
If you plan to take pictures to include them as well, make sure you try to discuss with the person in-charge of the shows beforehand to avoid suspicion and confusion. The point here is:
Not everyone likes getting their photos taken, which is fine. This is true at least for teams behind most shows, but not all. I observed that smaller shows tend to be a lot more friendlier and welcoming. But you know what they say, it varies from place to place.
So be sure to check with the person in-charge/organiser. You'll never know what'll happen. 😉
Do you like including everyone in your photos?
Any one of you have fears to overcome- such as being afraid to take someone's photos in shows?
