قَالَ يَا مُوسَىٰ إِنِّي اصْطَفَيْتُكَ عَلَى النَّاسِ بِرِسَالَاتِي وَبِكَلَامِي
Allah said: “O Mūsā, I have chosen you over people by My messages and by speaking to you.”
(Qur’ān 7:144)
Tafsir
- They would be the last nation, yet the most honored
- Their sins would be forgiven easily through sincere repentance
- Their repentance would not require extreme physical punishment, unlike the repentance of Banī Isrā’īl
- They would be granted immense mercy
- They would enter Jannah in large numbers
- Even their intentions for good deeds would be rewarded
Their Prophet ﷺ would intercede for them with the Greatest Intercession (al-Shafāʿah al-ʿUẓmā)
When Mūsā (عليه السلام) heard of these virtues, the narration says:
فقال موسى: يا رب، اجعلني من أمة محمد ﷺ
Mūsā said: “O my Lord, make me from the Ummah of Muḥammad.”
Allah replied with words meaning:
“That Ummah is for Muḥammad ﷺ alone, but you are Mūsā, whom I have chosen and honored in your time.”
