Start here
Glad you made it. This is the room I wish existed when I first started messing with this stuff. Main Street AI is for small business owners who keep hearing they should “use AI” and have no clue where to actually start. No jargon. No hype. No twelve-hour course you will never finish. Just plain answers from people running real businesses, same as you. Here is how it works. You are busy. You did not start your business to babysit software. So we keep it simple. One useful idea at a time. The kind of thing you can try on a Tuesday and put to work by Friday. Ask the dumb questions here. There are none. Somebody else in this room is wondering the exact same thing and is too polite to ask. So let’s get things rolling. Drop a comment and tell us: What you do, and what town you are in. The one task in your week you would hand off in a heartbeat. One thing about AI you are curious or skeptical about. I read every reply. See you in the comments.

Stop re-explaining everything to your AI (use Projects)
Ever feel like you're re-explaining your whole business to ChatGPT every single time? You don't have to. Every big tool (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot) has a "Projects" feature. Think of it as a folder that remembers your standing instructions and files, so each chat starts already knowing the context. One project per client, one for your social posts, whatever you keep coming back to. Wrote up how to set your first one up here: shimmerlabs.co/notes/stop-re-explaining-to-ai 👉 Your turn: what's the one task you keep re-explaining? That's your first project.

Don't get scammed by AI
Just got back from teaching this to 100 people at the Stillwater Chamber. Posting the good stuff here first. A worker joined a video call with his boss and coworkers. Knew every face. Knew every voice. Every one of them was a deepfake. He wired $25 million. Gone. The lesson isn't "be scared." The lesson is that seeing is no longer believing, so smart owners verify by process instead. The full Don't Get Got course in the classroom walks you through all of it. The talk, the three habits, the cheap tech list. If you do one thing this week: have the gift card talk with your team. Out loud. Takes two minutes. What's the closest call you or someone you know has had with a scam? Reply below. Real stories teach better than my slides do.

What does ChatGPT KNOW about you?
Well, all AI Chatbots we're using lately have some stored memories features... they save things about you to improve how it responds to you, sometimes they tell you they're saving a memory... often they don't. Want to see what memories ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini/etc have stored about you? Paste this prompt into the AI of your choice and let me know if anything surprised you in its response. ----Start Prompt---- List everything you currently remember about me from prior conversations or stored memory. Present it as a table with three columns: 1. The memory itself 2. The date and time it was stored, if you have access to that metadata 3. Whether this is a memory I can view and manage myself, or an internal one I cannot see Only report what you can actually access. If you do not have a real timestamp for an item, write "unknown" instead of guessing. If you cannot tell whether I can see it, write "unknown." Do not fabricate any values. If you have no persistent memory of me at all, say so plainly. ----End Prompt----
