Where To?
(In a big city. A man in a business suit gets into a taxi.)
Driver: Where to?
Man: Excuse me?
Driver: Huh? Where are you now?
Man: I’m in your cab.
Driver: Right. So, did you think I asked what clothes you’d like to wear?
Man: Of course not.
Driver: Good. So… where to?
Man: Sorry?
Driver: Come on. Did you think I asked what flavor of ice cream you’d like? Rocky Road?
Man: No.
Driver: Great. We’re making a little progress. So… where to?
Man: What?
Driver: Seriously? Did you think I asked,
“General, do I have your approval to launch this military operation?”
Man: Nope.
Driver: Then what exactly is your purpose here?
Man: That’s a good question.
I’m investigating how taxi companies operate, including the quality of their customer service.
(He takes out an ID and shows it to the driver.)
I’m an inspector from the National Traffic Agency.
Driver: Excuse me?
Man: I’m auditing you.
Driver: Sorry?
Man: (Silently stares at him.)
Driver: …What?
…All right. I give up.
Man: You should expect to be thoroughly scorched by your boss.
Good day.
(The man gets out of the cab.)
Driver: Damn it. What an annoying jerk.
Too bad for him.
My boss doesn’t work for this taxi company.
He works on Planet CS.
My real mission is to gather intelligence about Earth.
I never imagined humans had such ridiculous audits.
Oh well.
I’ll include it in my monthly report to Planet CS.
(Another passenger opens the door and gets into the cab.)
Driver (with a warm smile): Good afternoon, sir. Where would you like to go today?
