NFC Tags: A Simple Way for Small Businesses to Connect With Customers
A couple of members from our local business association recently asked me about the small NFC stickers I’ve been using with some businesses around town.
They were curious how they work and how difficult they are to set up.
The truth is, it’s actually very simple.
So I recorded a quick video demonstration and put together this short guide to explain what NFC means and how to set up your own NFC tag using a round sticker and a free app.
If you’re a small business owner, entrepreneur, or community organizer, this little tool can make it much easier for people to connect with what you do.
--------------------
As part of my Living Strong Projects, I’ve been working with local businesses to help them connect more easily with their customers.
One of the simplest tools I’ve been using lately is something called an NFC tag.
If you’ve ever tapped your phone to pay for something at a store, you’ve already used this technology.
What Does NFC Mean?
NFC stands for Near Field Communication.
It simply means that two devices can communicate with each other when they are very close together — usually just a quick tap.
With an NFC tag sticker, a customer can tap their phone and instantly open something like:
• Your website
• Your Google review page
• Your menu
• Your event registration page
• Your social media page
No typing.
No scanning QR codes.
Just tap and connect.
For small businesses, that can make it much easier for customers to interact with what you offer.

What You Need to Set Up an NFC Tag
The good news is that setting up an NFC tag is very simple.
Here are the two things you need:
1. Round NFC Sticker Tags
These are small round stickers that contain the NFC chip.
You can easily buy them on Amazon.

Once programmed, you can place them on:
• Counters
• Tables
• Flyers
• Menus
• Business cards
• Signs
• Product packaging
Anywhere customers can easily tap with their phone.
---
2. The Free NFC Tools App
To program the tag, you’ll use a simple free app called NFC Tools.
Download the app here:

This app allows you to write information onto the NFC tag.
---
How to Program Your NFC Tag
Once you have the stickers and the app installed, the setup takes less than a minute.
Step 1
Open the NFC Tools app.
Step 2
Tap Write.
Step 3
Tap Add a Record.
Step 4
Choose URL / Website.
Step 5
Paste the link you want people to open.
For example:
• Your Google review page
• Your website
• Your online menu
• Your event page
Step 6
Tap Write / Start Writing.
Step 7
Place the NFC sticker against the back of your phone.
You’ll see a message confirming that the tag has been written.
That’s it.
Your NFC tag is now ready to use.
---
Test Your Tag
Now simply tap a phone on the sticker.
The phone will instantly open the link you programmed.
That’s the power of NFC — simple, fast, and convenient.
---
How Businesses Are Using These
Many small businesses are starting to use NFC tags for things like:
• Making it easier for customers to leave Google reviews
• Opening menus in restaurants
• Promoting events
• Sharing websites or booking pages
• Connecting customers to social media
Sometimes the smallest pieces of technology can make the biggest difference.

A Living Strong Project
As part of my Living Strong Projects, I’ve been helping local businesses set up tools like this to strengthen their connection with the community.
Technology should serve people — not confuse them.
If you’re a business owner and would like help setting this up, feel free to reach out.
I do charge a small setup fee, and that helps support the work I’m doing through Living Strong Projects helping local businesses and our community grow stronger together.
