I reset two of my bins. One was all SMS bedding and the other was all pre-compost. is correct, the pre-compost was definitely muckier - but not anaerobic at all. That's the only difference. They were all fed the same and at the same time. The worms in the PC were definitely fatter. They tried to escape more as well - not that the SMS worms were sluggards - but they were more active for sure. The biggest difference is that the cocoons were MUCH more visible and larger. Hard to tell if there's really that many more because they're pretty impossible to see in the SMS with other things in there that look like cocoons.
But my bet is, there will be WAY more worms in the pre-compost bedding than the SMS - at least this round. Time will tell, but at this point, I'm not looking to do a lot of SMS experiments. I'll put it in the PC so I have the fungal microbes in the castings, but I'm not going to use it as a stand alone bedding in the near future unless a very interesting experiment is proposed.
