Breaking Patterns and Bumping Into Magic
I sent @Bret Feaster a little meditation thingy from 365 Nirvana and he wrote back a question. He asked me "What do those words spark inside of me? I thought......oh I LOVE that question!! So here it goes. For reference I included the page I sent. Anthony de Mello said: "Are you imprisoned by your concepts? Do you want to break free of your prison? Then look; observe... watch the grass grow." And it hit me....we’re all walking around inside these rigid little patterns, like trains stuck on tracks we didn’t even lay ourselves. But what if we could step off the tracks now and then? Let me tell you what happened when I did....And yes, this starts with a hangover! HAHAHAHA! The night before, Kendel and I hit Minneapolis with friends and absolutely SENT IT on karaoke. We're talking full send baby! We even made fast friends with a group of supportive 20-somethings who were cheering everyone on and asking us life advice like we were the village elders. It was awesome!! The next day? Not so awesome. The hangover was real. And of course, I had a random work thing pop up that required a 40-minute drive each way. Misery mode initiated. But halfway through that first 40 minutes, something shifted. I caught myself. I thought:"Why am I making this worse by resisting it?" I didn’t have to fight reality. I could just... accept it. So I did. I turned on an audiobook. I chilled out. I let it be what it was. Nothing heroic....just a little internal gear shift. A micro rebellion against the usual Joey-pattern of grumbling and being pissed about something. But then... the universe showed up. On the way back, I stopped at a random Target Starbucks....nowhere near my usual stomping grounds. I ordered a coffee. Then I had to go to the bathroom (because… hangover, hydration, caffeine, all of it...hahahaha). On my walk over, I spotted someone grabbing bags at checkout. It was NICK, one of the karaoke-night 20-somethings. The stranger from the night before.
