Vermicomposting, what is it?
Great question let's dive in!
It is the process of using worms (in my case red wrigglers) to break down plant matter/food scraps into fertilized, water soluble and nutrient rich soil.
The worms are kept in specialized bins and fed kitchen scraps and other plant matter. After several weeks the worms are removed, and their rich castings are collected for use as soil amendment. In addition, and castings can also be used to make a natural fertilizing foliar mist.
Why do it?
Vermicomposting is generally better than traditional composting for nutrient density speed and suitability for small spaces. It produces highly concentrated fertilizer with more nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, plus beneficial microbes. The process is faster, doesn't require turning and is ideal for indoor/urban settings.
