Free Activity - Adaptive Musical Chairs!
As I have worked with individuals with disabilities over the years, lead activities - I always try to teach "There is always a way to adapt!" Even with something like an activity that requires moving from chair to chair - and they are sitting in wheelchairs. Here is a free printable activity protocol for you - in hopes that you can see that this really is possible - and to also kind a give a sneak peak for what is to come in our resources library soon! I am excited to build up our resources library, and would love to know what other activities you have a hard time adapting - and lets all discuss ways that we have adapted to individuals needs in groups!

What resources do you have a hard time finding?
Welcome to Laura's Activity Room!
Frist off, we are so glad you are here! Weather you are band new to activities, or an experienced pro - we welcome you! In this community we support each other, share the good and bad experiences, help each other implement better activities, and make each others life easier! I want to start off by explaining why this community started, and what the purpose of it is. I have been an activity director for years... and the more groups I join, the more time I spend looking for ideas, or browsing social media for activity inspiration the more I realize that there is really not a lot of resources out there for activity professionals... and to be honest the resources that do exist are really not that adaptable to the variety of needs of people we serve. I work with people with intellectual and physical disabilities, and when I am looking for activity ideas I typically find either activities for seniors, and activities for kids. This is really unfortunate because most of the people I serve are sort of in the middle of he two - they need "grown up" meaningful activities but also need a simple easy to understand activity. Please tell me I am not alone... right? So... what is Laura's Activity Room? It is a place for inclusive activity planning resources so that we can have the resources we need even if there is diversity of people you serve. This is a home base for not only resources but a community we chat about real life activities, how they are going, and bounce of ideas of each other! Our motto is " There is always a way to adapt!" You don't need to have everything figure out to be here. You are welcome to participate at your own pace, ask for help any time, and explore the resources in the classroom whenever you feel inspired to do so. This community was built for you... for us... and I am I am excited to connect with you to continue to build this community. Together we make a difference!
